A warm day of walking in London’s Hampstead Heath left me rather too minimally made up for an unplanned dinner date with the girls.
With just a lippy and pressed powder in my bag, I made a quick stop into a (very small) Boots for all important eyeliner (I’m not dressed for anything other than the most casual activities without eyeliner).
Their minimal selection meant a choice in just seconds – No 7 Stay Perfect Amazing Eyes Pencil in black. “Intense colour that glides on and stays put all day for impactful looking eyes”, says the blurb. The pack also tells me that the product is both waterproof and hypo-allergenic.
I rather think that the blurb should read “…stays put all day, adding impact to every look”, but that’s the copywriter in me and another story all together. I tend to read too much into product copy.
Anyway, so t’was by dim pub toilet lighting that I fell under its spell. The creamy pencil goes on super softly, smudges well (intentionally) then sets and stays put, despite being pushed to the limits on a very balmy night. The colour is dense too, which I think is key, especially for black. Not the easiest to remove afterwards, but these types never are. I think this would be fabulous as part of a smokey eye – both to line the eyes and as a smudged base for dark shadow.
Supremely impressed I was, especially considering the £7.50 price tag. Weirdly I don’t seem to be able to find it on the Boots website. The only similar product listed has a smudger and the pencil wood is brown, whereas this one is sans smudger and black wood. Maybe it’s available instore only? If you see it, most definitely worth those precious Boots points.
What do you think of Boots’ own brand? I’d love to know which Number 7 products you rate.
